LONG AWAITED EVENT HORIZON LANDMARK ART EXHIBITION TO LAUNCH ANTONY GORMLEY SCULPTURES; ONE ERECTED ON THE FACADE OF FORTY ONE MADISON
New York, NY - Antony Gormley, one of the most highly regarded contemporary artists in the world, will make his public art debut in and around Madison Square Park from March 26 through August 15, 2010. Thirty-one of his iconic human figurative sculptures will be installed on the streets and rooftops in and around the historic Park, including one perched on the edge of the towering Forty One Madison building.
Gormley's large scale figures, cast from his own body, will be mounted on buildings and architectural treasures of the Flatiron District so they are visible from the ground and across the Park.
Laurie Burns, Senior Vice President and Forty One Madison Director, commented, "The installation will be up and running by the April Tabletop Market which runs from April 13 - 16. We hope everyone attending the Show will take time to walk through Madison Square Park and look up to see 'our Gormley' in this uber cool, urban landscape."
In addition to attracting thousands of visitors to New York for the exhibition, Event Horizon is expected to generate voluminous press coverage, including a special 32-page guide that will be bound in copies of the April 7, 2010 issue of
Time Out New York magazine. Complimentary copies of the guide will be available, courtesy of Forty One Madison, at the lobby reception desk. Event Horizon is presented by the Madison Square Park Conservancy as part of
Mad. Sq. Art 2010 in participation with NYC & Company.
